Hailing from Suffolk (“please don’t hold that against me!”) but now living and working in the west country, James’ style infuses Celtic and Cornish folk with blues. His appreciation and understanding of the Mississippi tradition was perfectly summed up by Seasick Steve, who not only described James as “a soul Brother” with “his fingers in the mud”, but paid the deepest compliment of saying he is, quite simply, “the best support act I’ve ever had”. This is a recommended Oak Folk session for all – but particularly for those who prefer their folk performed with more of a bluesy twang.
His songwriting is deeply rooted in a sense of place and we’re thrilled that he’ll be bringing his soulful blend of folk to close out our 2026 season.
